SUSAN TAYLOR HANSEN
Susan Taylor Hansen attended the University of Utah (BA, 1974) and the American University and University of Utah Schools of Law (J.D. 1976). She moved to Portsmouth, Virginia in 1987, and practices environmental law with the firm of Cooper, Spong & Davis, P.C. Mrs. Hansen represents housing and redevelopment authorities, developers, lenders, property owners and manufacturers in environmental matters related to acquisition, financing and development of real property, environmental compliance and enforcement matters, and in litigation involving environmental liabilities. She has extensive experience representing clients with potential superfund liability.
Mrs. Hansen has served as Chairman of the Portsmouth Planning Commission and is currently a member of the Board of Visitors for the Eastern Virginia Medical School. She has served as a member of the Environmental Council of the Virginia State Bar Association, and was appointed by Governor Warner as the member at large of the Virginia Board of Soil and Water Conservation Conservation. Mrs. Hansen served two terms as a Trustee of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and recently completed two terms as a board member and Virginia Vice President of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. She was a member of the founding Board of Directors for the Elizabeth River Project, served two terms as a member of the Board of Directors for the Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation, and is active in many other civic groups. Mrs. Hansen was an instructor in Environmental Law at Tidewater Community College for ten years, and has served as faculty in numerous continuing legal education seminars for attorneys and judges. Mrs. Hansen is married to physician Robert B. Hansen and is the mother of four daughters.
